Weekly Nature Hike

Big boys checking out the ice - it looks like water free-flowing in the background but it was frozen on top, absolutely beautiful!

We found this opening in the trees, along the woods, and here the water was not frozen and was moving with a fast current. . . gave us the opportunity to discuss currents and reason behind why it wasn't frozen thru in this spot.

Animal tracks

Littlest man carrying his thermos of hot chocolate. The view from this bridge over the river is breathtaking!
I got us a big, warm breakfast and made up a huge batch of hot chocolate and out we headed for our weekly nature hike. We LOVE to have breakfast outdoors and sometimes we are priviledged enough to witness deer meandering around while we sit and eat and watch them play. We were out for a couple of hours this morning and spotted quite a bit of wildlife, some animals tracks (which we identified), gathered some things for our nature journals and then we headed back home. Such a fabulous way to start our day - it just sets an incredible mood for the rest of the day. If you haven't attempted to add nature studies or hiking to your homeschool, you really should give it a try - it's so refreshing and the conversation possibilities and learning adventures are limitless! You won't be disappointed! :-)
